Health, Safety & Environment
Total Recordable Incidence Rate (TRIR) is derived by multiplying the number of recordable injuries by 200,000 and dividing this value by the total man-hours. The TRIR formula allows us to compare safety performance of companies and industries. The lower the TRIR number, the better the performance indicator.
Corporate Safety Commitment Policy
Parker Drilling Company provides drilling services, project management and rental tools that are vital to a vibrant world economy, and in doing so, we conduct our business in a manner that protects the communities where we live, work and play. The health and safety of our employees and their families, our neighbors and the communities where we operate are among the highest priorities for our company. Safety and environmental responsibility are an integral part of our culture, and these values drive improved quality in every aspect of our operations.
Parker's commitment is to comply with all occupational health, safety and environmental laws and develop the best feasible operating procedures, technologies and policies. In addition, Parker expects that each employee will have this same commitment to safety excellence.
As senior officers of Parker Drilling, it is our duty to provide the support necessary to achieve these goals.
2007: One of America's Safest Companies
Throughout our history, Parker Drilling has created a work environment for our employees which generates performance-driven solutions while placing safety as a primary consideration. Within the framework of our vision and values statement, we commit to providing the safest workplace for our employees and respecting the environment in which we work and live.
In recent years, HSE (Health, Safety and Environment) priorities such as ours have become increasingly important to our customers when selecting a drilling services provider. These priorities drive improved quality in every aspect of our operations, ultimately delivering the best value.
Through Parker's formal QA/HSE program, we established clear accountabilities for HSE compliance to determine that HSE policy, principles and practices are reflected throughout all of our operations. We set consistent goals and standards, provide appropriate resources, train employees to conduct their responsibilities, establish metrics to measure our HSE performance, and provide consistent leadership to strive for Incident-Free Operations.
As a forward-looking company, Parker Drilling works closely with clients and suppliers to implement our QA/HSE program and enhance our culture of outstanding HSE performance. This commitment played a significant part in our success in 2007. Last year, the company achieved another record-setting year in safety performance, with the lowest Total Recordable Incidence Rate (TRIR) in our company's history - 0.81. This TRIR beats the previous company record of 0.86 set in 2006, and is 17 percent lower than the company's self-imposed target for 2007, which was established to help drive performance improvement.
Our global safety achievements have received numerous recognitions from customers and industry authorities. In 2007 we were honored again after being named one of America's safest companies by Occupational Hazards magazine after being evaluated on a variety of criteria that included support from management and employee involvement, innovative solutions to safety challenges, injury and illness rates lower than the average for their industries, and substantiation of the benefits of the safety process. Our performance is a result of contributions from every one of our 3,000 worldwide employees, and they are proud to share in this honor.
In 2008, we will continue to strive to achieve exceptional and sustainable HSE performance throughout our company, where everyone goes home safe and sound every day. We are committed to, and expect continuous improvement in all our HSE endeavors.
